DISASTER AID

Bangladesh Association collects aid on a permanent basis for victims of disasters in Bangladesh. We also collect for disasters in other parts of the world when they happen.

As a country Bangladesh is the world’s most disaster hit country as well having been the victim of some of the world’s worst man inflicted catastrophes. In 2007 Bangladesh was devastated by two major floods followed by a cyclone at the end of the year. Thousands died and millions were displaced.

Aid that we collect is paid into the Association’s Emergency Fund bank account (details below) and sent to one of Islamic Relief, Muslim Aid or Muslim Hands - reputable, transparent charities.

If you wish to donate through the Association you can do so in one of 2 ways:

1. Visit us and make a donation by cash or cheque, for which we will give you a receipt.

2. Send a cheque to us and will will send you back a receipt.

Cheques should be made payable to ‘Bangladesh Association Emergency Fund’.

When you make a donation you might also wish to complete the Gift Aid Declaration. What is this? If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid offers a simple way to increase the value of your gift to charity by allowing the charity to reclaim the tax on your gift.

Charities take your donation (which is money you've already paid tax on), and then reclaim tax on its 'gross' equivalent (its value before tax was deducted) at the basic rate of 22 per cent.

In practice, this means that if you give £10 to charity using Gift Aid, that gift is worth £12.82 to the charity. This is because 22 per cent of £12.82 is £2.82 - your £10 being the difference.

The Gift Aid scheme is only for monetary gifts and there are rules limiting the value of benefits you can receive in return.

To claim Gift Aid you need to complete the Gift Aid Declaration. Click here and the form will open for you to print. Alternatively request one from our office. Complete the form and enclose it with your donation. We will do the rest. The Association’s charity number is 1040037.

You can also make donations directly to the charities above. Click on the link and it will take you to their websites where you can pay online.
